Rafael Benitez is set to be handed a hefty transfer pot this January as he looks to bolster his Newcastle squad going into the second half of the season.

Newcastle are due a sizeable chunk of the Premier League’s centralised prize pot, money that can be used towards the Spaniard’s transfer funds should the takeover of the club not happen before the New Year.

The pot, distributed amongst all 20 of the top flight club’s, is mostly based on TV rights, and it is believed that Benitez will use the chunk of money paid to the Magpies to fund his transfer plans.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea boss has already drawn up a list of positions he would like to recruit for over the winter, with scouts already working across Europe to identify suitable targets.

The Magpies will receive upwards of £20 million this January from the Premier League’s centralised pot, with the club having had 11 games broadcast on TV before the end of January.
