Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has insisted that he will be bringing in new players this January following his side’s 4-1 drubbing at Old Trafford at the weekend.

The Magpies fell foul to a masterclass performance from Jose Mourinho’s side on Saturday afternoon, with the returning Paul Pogba the star of the show.

Despite taking the lead through Dwight Gayle, goals from Anthony Martial, Chris Smalling, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku capped off a disappointing afternoon for the Magpies, with the defeat meaning Benitez’s side have now lost three top flight fixtures on the bounce.

After the loss, Benitez has said he plans to bring in a host of new players after the New Year in an attempt to revive his side’s good form from earlier in the campaign.

“I don’t know what will happen,” Benitez said of the January transfer window.

“I will keep working until January as hard as I can to improve my players, and if we can do something, we will. If not, I will try to improve the players that are available to me.”
