Benfica are preparing themselves for a fresh attempt to sign midfielder Andreas Samaris from Newcastle United, according to O Jogo.
The Magpies were thought to have approached the Portuguese champions during the summer over a move for the Greece international, however after no deal materialised, they could go in again for Samaris after the New Year.
Newcastle scouts were spotted at Benfica’s league match against Vitória de Setúbal at the weekend ahead of a potential approach for the midfielder.
Samaris has been a key member of the Benfica side which as won three consecutive Liga NOS titles, making 116 appearances in just over three seasons since moving to the Eagles from Olympiakos in 2014.
He has however made only 6 appearances this season, and made only a brief cameo on Sunday in front of the Magpies scouts on hand to watch him.
Should Newcastle indeed want to sign the Greece star, he is expected to cost around €20 million.
