There is only a £2.45m difference between Newcastle’s valuation for Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun and the Turkish champions’ asking price for the player, according to Aksam.

The Turkish newspaper report that the Magpies are preparing a €20million (£17.55m) bid for the striker, but Besiktas president Fikret Orman has decided he wants £20million to allow the 26 year old to leave the Super Lig side.

Tosun has been in red hot form for Besiktas this season having scored three goals in three Champions League group stage matches so far, while he has also scored five goals in ten domestic games.

Newcastle will however face competition from Premier League teams in their bid to sign the striker in January. Tottenham and Crystal Palace are reportedly the Magpies’ closest rivals for the Turkish international but Aksam report that Newcastle are leading the way with Besiktas reportedly already lining up a replacement for the forward.
