Former France striker Christophe Dugarry does not believe that PSG attacking midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa should return to England to play in the Premier League.

The 30 year old has been linked with Newcastle in recent weeks, and more recently he has been tipped to join up once again with former manager Claude Puel at Leicester City. The new Foxes boss coached Ben Arfa at Nice two years ago when he scored 17 goals in Ligue One.

Speaking on French TV station RMC (quotes via Le10 Sport), World Cup winner Dugarry said the midfielder had failed in England, and it would be a mistake to go back to play for Leicester or any other team in the Premier League:

“For me it would not be good for either of them [Ben Arfa or Puel]. [For] Ben Arfa, it’s over in England. I think he does not have the football, the game, the self-sacrifice, the determination, the aggressiveness, the acceleration, the will to play in England. When we know that there are already players like Vardy, Mahrez … He has not played for two years, what will Ben Arfa bring to Leicester? He was in Hull and Newcastle, it went wrong. The English league is complicated for him. I think it’s a very bad idea.”

Dugarry has experience of playing in England with Birmingham City, where he spent 18 months. He previously had spells with Bordeaux, AC Milan, Barcelona and Marseille, as well as winning the World Cup with France in 1998.
