Newcastle are scouting Villarreal winger Alfonso Pedraza, according to IBTimes UK. The 21 year old spent the second half of last season on loan at Leeds United, and the Magpies are believed to be keen on bringing him back to England.
Rafa Benitez’s side will however face competition in their attempts to land the Spaniard, with Premier League rivals Southampton also keeping a close eye on the midfielder.
Pedraza is currently on loan at Alaves from Villarreal for the the rest of the season, and Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino, who coached the Spanish side last season, has been given glowing reports on the player from his former club.
The Spanish under 21 international is highly regarded in his homeland and he was only given a new four year contract by Villarreal prior to his loan switch to Alaves in the summer.
IBTimes UK report that both Newcastle and Southampton could be considering January bids for the player, but that is unlikely considering Alaves have the player on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
