Napoli are considering a move for Real Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

The Serie A league leaders are believed to be looking for a long term replacement for Pepe Reina. The Spaniard was heavily linked with joining up with former manager Rafa Benitez at Newcastle but he remained in Naples to see out the final year of his contract.

Rulli meanwhile is also reportedly a target for the Magpies with the club having shortlisted the 25 year old, along with Galatasaray’s Fernando Muslera as possible January recruits.

Newcastle could however be battling Napoli for the Argentinian goalkeeper with the Italian side said to be considering either a January approach or a summer transfer when Reina is expected to leave the club on a free transfer.

A summer deal would be more likely for the Serie A team, and that would mean the Magpies would have to move quickly for the £15m rated stopper, with an early January offer more likely to succeed.
