Newcastle United fans have called for Jonjo Shelvey to be called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad after his impressive performance against Liverpool on Sunday.
The former Liverpool midfielder was a key figure for Rafael Benitez’s side against The Reds yesterday afternoon, helping the Magpies to a well earned 1-1 draw.
A Philippe Coutinho screamer had given the visitors the lead mid-way through the first half, however Spaniard Joselu went through on goal and finished (with a stroke of good fortune) to take it into half time all square.
While both sides came close on multiple occasions, the pair saw out an evenly matched draw.
Speaking on Super Sunday following the game, former manager of both sides Graeme Souness hailed the performance of Shelvey in the middle of the park, insisting the 25-year-old should again be given a chance on the international stage.
It seems the Toon Army agree with him …
Completely agree with Souness, Shelvey should be in the England squad 100%
