Club captain Jamaal Lascelles has insisted his Newcastle United players remain focused on their football despite takeover talk at the club intensifying.

After current owner Mike Ashley last week officially put the club up for sale, the future of the Tyneside outfit has been up in the air.

Financier Amanda Staveley, who helped broker Sheikh Mansour’s purchase of Manchester City, is the front runner to buy the club, however a number of other un-named parties are also thought to remain interested.

Despite the ongoing talks however, Lascelles believes the club’s results have shown they are not worried about what is going on at the top and instead are focused solely on their football.

“To be honest, we don’t really look into that,” said Lascelles.

“Whatever happens, happens. The manager just tells us to concentrate on football.

“We’re not going to be worried about the takeover. It’s just football. We’ll be working hard for the next game. That’s all we can worry about it.”
