Reports from Italy have suggested that Newcastle are continuing to monitor Dennis Praet’s situation at Sampdoria.
Calciomercato reports that the Italian club will not let the Belgian leave in the January transfer window but the player will have the chance to leave Serie A next summer when a club can activate his €20m release clause.
Whether the Magpies will choose to match the buyout fee, it remains to be seen. A lot may have changed next summer with perhaps new owners being able to finance moves for higher quality signings.
Praet was not particularly impressive during his first season in Italy after making the move from Anderlecht last summer, but after three assists in his last three matches, speculation over his future has increased.
Newcastle fans on Twitter are however not very impressed with being linked with the 23 year old, with many feeling he has not performed to a high enough standard to merit a move to the Magpies.
No thanks, he's bang average

That 2nd one is key. Would like to see Merino play there at some point – does it well for Spain U21s! Dennis Praet could be a good signing.

Yeah Merino is more of an option than Shelvey imo. Praet was poor last season but has looked very good this season! 3 assists in last 3 gs
