Newcastle United have vastly impressed in their return to the Premier League, with the Magpies currently sat seventh in the table and well on-course to achieve their pre-season target of retaining their spot in the top-flight.

Excitement is clear to see around St. James’ Park and not just because of the on-field performances, as the Tyneside giants are also facing an impending takeover after Mike Ashley officially put the club up for sale recently.

That’s left the fans dreaming about better times, on the back of what has been a turbulent tenure under Ashley, but it’s not just the supporters that are excited- as Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot identified.

Speaking to The Mirror, Newcastle’s 31-year-old stopper revealed how it’s an exciting time for everybody involved with the club.

“There’s obviously interest which is exciting for everyone. Hopefully someone comes in who can take the club forward, which will be great. The infrastructure is fantastic.”

“As players we just hope everything works out for the club because we’ve been through a lot these past few years, but there’s a positive vibe around the place and we’ve got to make sure we continue with that. We want this to be a long-term thing, where we’re always looking forward and not back,”

Republic of Ireland international Elliot has spent six years with the club after joining in 2011 from Charlton Athletic, largely being a second-string choice, but has featured in all of the Magpies’ Premier League games this season.
