Newcastle midfielder Dan Barlaser signed a two year contract extension earlier this week. The 20 year old has not featured in the league so far this season for the club’s first team but he has certainly been impressive playing for Peter Beardsley’s under 23 side.
The Magpies faced Sparta Prague in the Premier League International Cup last night, and Barlaser scored an impressive individual goal to help seal a 2-1 win in their first group match of the competition.
Barlaser has already said that he wants to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window to gain more first team experience, but if he produces more displays like the one last night, manager Rafa Benitez may consider promoting him to the senior side in the not too distant future.
The midfielder was born in Gateshead, but has played for Turkey at under 16 and under 17 level. Clubs such as Turkish champions Besiktas have been interested in the player over the past year or so. Here is some of the reaction on Twitter to Barlaser’s performance yesterday:
And a fantastic goal it was too! More first team games soon I hope!
