Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has revealed he would like to ‘remain in football’ after he completes the sale of his club, reports the Mirror.

Ashley officially announced his wish to part ways with the Magpies last week after a ten year tenure at the club, and a number of parties are already thought to be interested in purchasing the Tyneside club, which Ashley values at around £400 million.

Leading the pack is financier Amanda Staveley, who was seen in the stands at St James Park at the start of the month for Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Despite his move on from Newcastle however, Ashley has no plans to quit football entirely.

“Sometime in the future Mike wants to have another go as a club owner but he is talking about maybe rescuing a club in football’s lower reaches.” an aide of the Sports Direct owner revealed.

“He knows he’s not at the races when it comes to the big clubs.”
