Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has opened negotiations with a number of potential investors over the proposed takeover of the club, reports Sky Sports.

After vocalising his wish to begin talks with investors back in August, Ashley and Newcastle have now signed non-disclosure agreements with a number of potential investors in an attempt to get the ball rolling on the long discussed takeover.

Despite talks beginning however, no deal is yet close.

A number of international investors including the Chinese are thought to involved, as well financier Amanda Staveley, who was at the game on Sunday to watch the Magpies 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Staveley had previously attempted to purchase Liverpool just over a year ago, however having failed, remains keen on adding a Premier League club to her growing empire.

Mike Ashley has been at the helm of Newcastle now for just over a decade after having bought the club from recently deceased Freddy Shepherd back in 2007 for £134 million, and after a turbulent and scandal-ridden 10 years, is now ready to sell up after admitting he no longer has the financial power to help the club compete with the league’s best.
