Newcastle United have been flying high in the Premier League this season, with the opportunity to rise to sixth in the table if they beat Burnley at Turf Moor this evening, but Rafael Benitez is aware of the work his side need to do between now and the end of the campaign.

It’s a long way until May and Newcastle know plenty needs to be done for them to cement their top-flight status and ensure that they have the stability they need to build upon, which may be provided by incoming investment.

The Magpies continue to be embroiled in takeover talks, with Mike Ashley officially putting the club up for sale and aiming to complete a deal before the festive season, and that could give Benitez the funds to strengthen his side further.

It was widely reported that he was unhappy with a lack of investment in the summer, even leading to suggestions he could end his stay on Tyneside, so a new board will need to ensure they keep him happy- and the Spaniard has already identified three areas of the squad he wants to improve.
