Newcastle United have been handed a fresh injury blow by the news that Paul Dummett will not return until November at the earliest, following a hamstring injury which has kept him sidelined since the opening game of the season.

The 26-year-old full-back was a mainstay in the Championship winning side last season but was hauled off after just seven minutes in the opening weekend’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, leaving a huge void in the Magpies’ defence.

Newcastle tried to sign a new full-back in the final weeks of the transfer window but failed to do so, which has led to Javi Manquillo, Chancel Mbemba and Jesus Gamez all filling in this role when required- but Rafael Benitez wants a more natural choice.

The Spanish boss has hinted that he could look to sign cover in this area in January, as he looks to create further competition within the squad, so we’ve identified three targets he should pursue in the New Year.
