Arsenal and Crystal Palace legend Ian Wright has praised Newcastle United after their return to the Premier League and has described them as a  club ‘on the move’.

The Magpies currently sit 6th in the Premier League table after victory over Wright’s former side Palace at the weekend, a position many didn’t expect to see them in after nearly 10 games played.

Having only been relegated two seasons prior and returning via winning the Championship, Rafael Benitez’s side were widely expected to struggle, however have since defied expectations, something which has impressed now pundit Wright.

“If your players aren’t good enough and  you go down because you’re just not good enough and you go down, at least the fans get something.” said Wright on BBC Radio 5 Live (via The Mag).

“They get a little bit of excitement in the Championship like Newcastle got.

“They come back, they have ridden that crest and now they are on the move again.”

The ex-England star then went on to claim that in his former playing days, he would rather be at a club such as Newcastle than a number of the league’s other ‘non-movers’.

“But to stand still like West Brom are, like Stoke are.” he continued.

“I’m sorry – no – I’m sorry, I’d rather do Newcastle.

“You ask a West Brom fan if, at the moment, he is happy standing still. I’m telling you, they can’t be. I’d love to hear from the ones who are.

“When you are like Newcastle you can come back. If I had to be Newcastle or Stoke, I’d be Newcastle.

“Newcastle or West Brom, I’d be Newcastle.”
