Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs who sent scouts to watch Turkey star Cenk Tosun in action last week ahead of a proposed switch to England, reports The Sun.

Scouts from Newcastle, Tottenham and Crystal Palace were present in the stands to see Tosun’s Turkey lose out 3-0 to Iceland in Eskişehir on Friday night.

The trio of onlookers were also thought to be present for last night’s 2-2 draw with Finland, in which Tosun scored both of his country’s goals.

Newcastle are looking to bring in the Besiktas hitman this January as Rafael Benitez looks to bolster his options in front of goal. The Spaniard’s two main strikers Alexandar Mitrovic and Joselu both only have two goals to their name each this season so far.

Tosun has become hot property across Europe after a brilliant last season in which he found the net 27 times in all competitions for both club and country.

That form has been carried into the new season too, with the 26-year-old having found the net 9 times already since the start of the campaign.
