Newcastle United are one of a number of European club’s keen on signing France U21 star Jonathan Bamba after his impressive start to the 2017/18 season, reports Le10Sport.
Bamba has scored 5 times and produced 1 assists in his opening 8 appearances of the campaign for Ligue 1 side St Etienne, sparking interest across the continent, including from Newcastle United and Spanish giants Sevilla.
The 21-year-old’s contract expires in the summer after having spent two of the past three seasons out on-loan, however it is understood Magpies manager Rafael Benitez would be willing to broker a deal for the winger in January before he becomes available on a free next summer.
Bamba has asked for a huge wage increase at St Etienne following his good start to the season, however the French side are thus far unwilling the match the youngster’s demands, paving a way for him to leave the club should a suitable offer come in.
Bamba has been capped 6 times by France’s U21s, finding the net twice.
