Newcastle United have been in ‘regular contact’ with Turkish club Galatasaray over the January transfer of winger Garry Rodrigues, reports the Chronicle.

The Magpies had a reported £6 million bid for the Cape Verde international rejected during the summer, however remain confident they can land their man after the New Year with an improved bid.

Born in the Netherlands, Rodrigues has spent much of his footballing career in his home country, however has played for a number of clubs across Europe in recent years including Spanish side Elche FC and Greek club PAOK.

The 26-year-old winger only sealed his €3.7 million transfer to Turkey in January this year, hence the Super Lig club’s reluctance to let him go after only a brief spell with his new side.

Rafael Benitez, keen to bolster his options going forward this January after a relatively quiet summer transfer window, is thought to admire the Dutch-born winger and believes he would be an acquisition for the club.
