Newcastle United remain interested in signing Liverpool striker Danny Ings, reports the Northern Echo (via HITC).

The Magpies were linked with a move for the England international over the summer, however no deal materialised leading to manager Rafael Benitez expressing his frustration at his club’s lack of business during the transfer window.

However after the Spaniard has been promised funds to spend this coming January in order to help ensure the club’ survival, it is thought he may again move for the former Burnley striker.

Ings finds himself surplus to requirements at Anfield following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and is now the club’s fourth choice striker behind Roberto Firmino, Dominic Solanke and Daniel Sturridge, all of whom are preferred to the 25-year-old.

Newcastle, while having had a positive start to the season, have struggled in front of goal, with the club’s top scorers being all Jamaal Lascelles, Alexandar Mitrovic and Joselu, each with two goals to their name.
