Newcastle United are continuing to monitor the progress of Josh Murphy, the twin brother of Magpies star Jacob, ahead of the January transfer window, reports the Chronicle.

Newcastle completed the £12 million signing of Jacob Murphy during the summer after having shone for Norwich City in the previous season, and now it appears his twin brother could follow him to St James Park.

Rafael Benitez remains keen on Josh, with the Spaniard continuing to monitor his situation in the Championship.

The 22-year-old winger has had an excellent start to the new season with the Canaries, finding the net 4 times in 13 appearances as Norwich sit in the play-off positions in England’s second division.

The youngster also found the net last night against Arsenal in a 2-1 defeat in the Carabao Cup, producing a fine finish to open the scoring.

Despite rumours over his future, Murphy insists he is enjoying life at Norwich: “My aim was to play as many games as I can this season and I’ve played in every one so far.

“I feel like I’ve contributed pretty well, and I just want to keep getting assists and scoring goals and contributing to wins because the feeling around the dressing room is brilliant. Everyone’s raring to go – it’s a good feeling at the moment, and I want to keep playing well.”
