Rafael Benitez has been given a fresh injury worry after winger Christian Atsu was forced to full out of his country’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Uganda, reports the Chronicle.

The former Chelsea man, who did not start for the Magpies last month against Swansea after suferring a minor injury, has been advised to pull out of Ghana’s squad for their Group E crunch match.

Reports suggest Atsu was set to take on the captain’s armband for the match as one of his country’s key players, however he will instead prioritise his club responsibilities to ensure his fitness for the upcoming weeks.

The Ghanian has been one of the stand out players in what has been a positive start to the new season for Rafael Benitez’s side, and registered his first goal of the season in the 2-1 victory over Stoke in mid-September.

The Magpies have picked up 10 points from their opening seven games, and have won three of their last five top flight games.
