DeAndre Yedlin has warned his Newcastle team-mates that they must remain humble despite their impressive start to the season.

The Magpies currently sit seventh in the Premier League table after nine games, with their most recent victory over Crystal Palace taking their points total to 14.

With many expecting Rafael Benitez’s side to be spending the majority of their time at the opposite end of the table this season, defender Yedlin says while he and his team-mates are thrilled to be defying the critics, they must also tread with caution with the season still in it’s early days.

Yedlin told the Chronicle: “It’s great but we can’t get ahead of ourselves.

“There’s still a lot more to do and it’s still so early in the season. We will just keep pushing and try to get the results we need.”

He added: “We’re prepared and ready for the battle ahead. The win against Crystal Palace wasn’t the prettiest but we’re happy with three points.”

The Magpies take on Burnley in what will be a tough encounter at Turf Moor on Monday, and the USA international is well aware of the threat Sean Dyche’s side pose, them too having enjoyed a fine start to the season of their own.

“It will be tough – 100%. Every game in this league is tough.” he said.

“People will probably look at the win against Crystal Palace, bottom of the table, and think it was easy but it wasn’t easy by any means.

“It took literally the whole game to beat them. They had chances as well and every team will be a threat.

“Every week it will be tough and every game we will have to battle. We’re prepared for it.”
