Rafael Benitez has refused to rule out a return to Anfield in the future, but insists he is ‘happy’ at Newcastle and remains focused on the job at hand, reports The Sun.

The Spaniard spent 6 years at Liverpool between 2004 and 2010, helping them to an historic Champions League trophy in 2005 and an FA Cup only a year later.

Since leaving the Merseyside club seven years ago, Benitez has oft been linked with a move back to his former home, something which he has refused to rule out.

“It hasn’t come at the right time. Sometimes they have problems and you are unavailable, or sometimes you are available and they are doing well.” Benitez said speaking of a potential return to Anfield.

“So I didn’t have too many chances to go back — but it is football so you never know. I am getting older but for a manager I am still young so we’ll see what happens.”

Despite his claims however, Benitez insists he remains happy at Newcastle and hopes he will enjoy a long and successful future with his current club.

“It is all in the future — I don’t want any, ‘Rafa wants to go back’. It is nothing like that because I am happy here at Newcastle. I want to do well here and I wish Jurgen Klopp a lot of success.”
