Arsenal and Crystal Palace legend Ian Wright has suggested Newcastle United could be the ‘ideal club’ for struggling Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge was named in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up for yesterdays clash between two clubs at St James’ Park, however failed to make an impact and missed a crucial chance to give the visitors the lead in the second half.

The Englishman was heavily rumoured to be on his way out on Anfield during the summer, and following his lack of game time so far this season, it could be that he does indeed leave the Reds this January.

With Rafael Benitez in the hunt for a striker, Wright believes the two could be the perfect match for each other.

“I think Newcastle would be the ideal club for Daniel Sturridge,” Wright told BBC Radio 5Live.

“The fans would take to him there.”

Newcastle had previously stated their interested in signing the England international during the summer, and would be likely keen to make a move should be become available for transfer.
