Newcastle United missed the chance to rise to sixth in the Premier League standings last night as the Magpies narrowly lost to fellow high-fliers Burnley at Turf Moor, bringing an end to the club’s three-match unbeaten run.
The performance from Newcastle left a lot to be desired, as it was clear Rafael Benitez’s side lacked the cutting edge required to carve through Burnley’s organised defensive line, but there was certainly positives for the travelling supporters.
Newcastle were hardly outplayed by their opponents and fans were left impressed by the performance of summer signing Florian Lejeune, who once again partnered captain Jamaal Lascelles in the heart of the defence- suggesting that this is the duo that Newcastle have been looking for.
Fans took to social media after last night’s game to praise the Frenchman, who has been in decent form recently, and it’s becoming clear that the signing was another piece of magic from Spanish boss Rafael Benitez.
Really like the look of the Lascelles + Lejeune combo- they scored off their only real chance- and it was a low percentage one #NUFC

Have to say, Lascelles and Lejeune were absolutely solid, the latter again looks a real class act! #NUFC

Lejeune has had a good game. Can't say the same about any of our other players tonight. #NUFC

Lejeune & Lascelles the only players to emerge from tonight with any credit, for me. Manquillo, Diame, Perez, Joselu not good enough. #NUFC

Not a good performance tonight, but on a positive note i thought Lejeune was brilliant. #NUFC

Tonights thoughts – Perez should never start. Mitro needs to be given a chance. Lejeune is class. Diame is even worse than Sissoko. #nufc

Lejeune looks a very good defender. Reads the game so well and can ping a ball when needs be. #nufc
