Newcastle United secured a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Southampton this weekend, ending their run of four consecutive defeats against the Saints on the South Coast, but the Magpies may feel like it was two-points dropped.
Manolo Gabbiadini twice struck back to bring the scores level after Newcastle United had edged ahead and Rafael Benitez’ side would have secured all three points if it wasn’t for two second-half defensive mishaps, with the first coming five minutes after the break.
Whilst it’s a decent result on paper, Newcastle will have to deal with the result that they may perceive as negative heading into this weekend’s crucial clash with Crystal Palace- a side that will have seen their spirits raised by a surprise victory over defending champions Chelsea on Saturday.
Fortunately for Newcastle, they have players entering that fixture on a good run of form and the Magpies will be looking to see further solid performances from these three players- who were certainly their best performers in the draw with Southampton.
