Newcastle United scouts were present for this week’s Europa League clash between Sporting Braga and IstanbulĀ Basaksehir.

The home side emerged 2-1 victors on the night thanks to goals from Ahmed Hassan and Fransergio, taking the Portuguese side top of Group C with two wins from two.

Bakaksehir sit third in the group, with only a point.

A number of talented players were on show during the European clash, including both former Leicester City man Gokhan Inler and Dutch international Eljero Elia, however it was one name that caught the eye on the team-sheets, one heavily linked with a move to St James Park in the past in the form of ex0PSG and St Etienne striker Melvut Erdinc.

The Turkey international was on hand for the losing side following his move to Abdullah Avci’s side this summer, but was unable to open his account for his new club on the night.

Erdinc had been rumoured to on his way to Tyneside back in 2010 during his time in Paris, however no deal materialised.

However, the Magpies struggling in front of goal, it could be that the club turn their attention to their former target.

Erdinc has amounted a total of 104 career goals during spells in Turkey, France and Germany.
