Newcastle coach Francisco de Miguel Moreno says Jonjo Shelvey is one of the most talented midfielders in Europe and ‘one of the best he has ever worked with’.

Shelvey has just returned from 3 match suspension for a stamp on Tottenham’s Dele Alli, however despite his poor disciplinary record, the Englishman continues to impress the coaches both on the pitch and in training.

Moreno, or Paco as he’s known, took charge of the Magpies’ clash with Swansea on Sunday but did not start Shelvey, but still has doubts about his ability.

“He’s one of the best we have worked with technically,” Paco told the Chronicle. “He has those attributes and he is a very good player technically, but also with other things.

“He knows he has to improve, but knows exactly what he needs to do to achieve that.”

“We can see him doing well in training and he’s glad to be back from suspension to play games,” added Moreno.

“Hopefully, we can play him soon, we’ll see what happens but he’s in good shape.”

Shelvey played 90 minutes for Newcastle under-23’s on Monday against Norwich City.
