Former Tottenham Hotspur and England manager Glenn Hoddle has praised Newcastle’s terrific start to the season and believes manager Rafael Benitez has helped the club find the ‘right formula’.
The Magpies have won their last three Premier League games on the bounce and currently sit pretty in fourth place in the table – a position not many expected them to be in at the beginning of August.
Hoddle, now an ITV and BT Sport pundit, believes Benitez has had a huge impact at the club.
“I think what’s he’s done, is that he’s got a good dressing room,” said Hoddle. “I think there’s been a question mark about the dressing room in there. He’s got a young captain, who is leading by example, but he’s got good pro’s in there now.
“I think they went through a few years where it was a little bit disruptive behind the scenes; that’s very difficult for any manager, if you’ve got that disruption,” he added.
“But I think they’re all on the same wave length. They’ve got that passion up there and they’re living off that passion from the crowd. There was a time when I think they went out on the pitch there a little apprehensive and now they can’t wait to infront of that crowd.
“When you play like that as a football team, that’s the formula and chemistry you want.”
