Players have agreed a incentive based bonus package with club owner Mike Ashley after weeks of extensive negotiations, reports Chronicle Live.

Club captain Jamaal Lascelles has been in talks with Ashley over the past fortnight in order to agree the package for players, which will see them share a reported £4 million if they successfully steer they club to Premier League safety.

The deal will also see an extra £1 million added to that total sum for every place above 17th the club finishes come May, as well as a huge £20 million bonus should the Magpies lift the FA Cup.

In the past, players at the club would have only received a bonus for a top 10 finish, however after the club’s wavering fortunes in recent years a deal has been agreed to help ensure the club’s survival.

The Magpies have had a positive start to the new season, winning two of their four top flight games so far, however were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Championship side Nottingham Forest in a shock defeat.
