Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has warned Newcastle fans to enjoy the presence of Rafael Benitez at St James’ Park while it lasts, as he believes it won’t be long before the Spaniard parts ways with the Tyneside club.

Carragher, who played under Benitez at Anfield between 2004 and 2010, believes his ex-managers difficult relationship with club owner Mike Ashley could be his downfall.

“If I’m being totally honest, I don’t expect to see Rafa Benitez at Newcastle over a sustained, long period of time,” Carragher told Sky Sports (via the Daily Express).

“I think eventually something will happen with him and the owner and unfortunately for Newcastle this is not going to be a happy and long marriage.”

Benitez was unhappy with Ashley not fulfilling his promise of big money to spend during the summer transfer window, instead being left to manage with limited funds and hence unable to secure the number and quality of players who would have liked to.

Ashley has a history of falling out with Magpies managers, including Chris Hughton who he controversially sacked back in 2010.

“So enjoy it while he’s here.” Carragher added.

Newcastle currently sit ninth in the Premier League, having won three and lost three of their six top flight games so far this season.
