Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez hopes history can repeat itself when his side take on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the weekend.

Perez came off the bench for the Magpies to score a memorable winner against the Reds at St James’ Park back in November of 2014, and the Spaniard is hoping he can replicate that feat this Sunday on Tyneside.

“In this league anybody can beat anybody, so we have to make sure we’re ready.” said Perez.

“A few years ago I scored the winner against Liverpool and I will never forget it. I had the pleasure of scoring a winner against a famous club. It was a great feeling and hopefully next week is the same feeling for me.”

The Magpies lost 1-0 to Brighton at the weekend to bring to an end their run of three consecutive victories, but Perez is hoping his side can put the defeat behind them and pick back up where they left off against Stoke City a fortnight ago.

“We have to bounce back. We’re disappointed because we lost a game to a set-piece and the game went for them.

“We had a lot of chances and couldn’t take them. Now it’s about Liverpool. We must realise it’s about responding in the next game now – we can come back stronger.”
