Former Newcastle United striker Gavin Peacock has hailed his ‘special’ time at St James’ Park saying he believes there was a time he felt he could score at any time under the management of Kevin Keegan.

Peacock, who played for the Magpies between 1990 to 1993 making over 100 appearances for the club, is set to return to his former stomping ground as part of the club legends talks, and prior to his one-off comeback, he has been reminiscing over his time on Tyneside.

“My time at Newcastle was a very special one for me,” said Peacock speaking in the Chronicle.

“Who knows what may have happened if I’d stayed as well as it would have been nice to have been some part of the Entertainers but life had a different calling for me and you have to take these opportunities.

“I have always had a strong connection to the area though as my family not only comes from Tyneside but are lifelong Newcastle fans, so it’s a time I will never forget.”

Peacock joined the Magpies in 1990 for a mere £275,000 from QPR, and scored 35 times in Black and White before moving onto to Chelsea three years later to become one of Glenn Hoddle’s first signings at the Stamford Bridge, but it was at St James’ he enjoyed his most prolific form in front of goal.

“There’s no better feeling than scoring goals for Newcastle United and my record exploded when I arrived there.

“There was a period at the club when I felt I could score at any time and did so often either as an attacking midfielder or a forward.” he said, before adding: “Then there was Keegan’s home debut as Newcastle manager, we won 3-0 and I played an absolute blinder – that was down to Keegan though and his man-management, he was certainly a motivator of men and made you feel special, like you take on the world, giving you mass belief and confidence.”

Gavin will be making his first appearance under Newcastle Legends auspices on Monday, October 9, at Nine Bar, St James Park with tickets now on sale from the Legends events page GroupOn.
