Newcastle are weighing up a move for Sweden midfielder Viktor Klaesson, reports the Chronicle.

The Magpies had opted out of a move for the 25-year-old Krasnodar man during the summer, however now may reconsider in January.

The Swede can play as a central midfielder or out wide on the left, and is well known for his passing abilities and delivery from the set ball.

He has played all of his football to date either in his home country with IF Elfsborg and most recently in Russia with Krasnador whom he joined in January of 2016.

During his spells with both clubs, Klaesson has made a total of 210 appearances and scored an impressive 55 times from midfield.

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is looking for a first team ready midfielder this winter, and Klaesson could be just the man to solve his woes in the middle of the park.

It is also expected Benitez will be looking for a new striker in January, as well as a goalkeeper following the permanent departure of Tim Krul.
