Winger Christian Atsu is ready to kick on and prove himself in the Premier League following scoring his first top flight goal.

The Ghanian – who joined the Magpies permanently at the end of last season – scored Newcastle’s first goal in their recent 2-1 victory over Stoke City.

Somewhat of a football journeyman over the past few years having spent time with Porto, Malaga and Bournemouth, Atsu has revealed his is finally glad to feel settled and looks forward to forging a successful career for himself on Tyneside.

“I think in the Premier League there is more quality. If you make one mistake you get punished so you have to concentrate.” said Atsu.

“I’m very happy to be playing now and helping the team. For me the longer you play the more you learn in the Premier League.”

“I’m trying to improve myself but also the team now. I was looking for my first Premier League goal and got it against Stoke so I was really glad.”

Not only is the former Chelsea man targeting success on a personal level, but also believes, that under the guidance of Rafael Benitez, Newcastle can go far this season following their impressive start to the season.

“We are ambitious and have a strong mentality where we fight for each other. We support each other. That’s what we did in the Championship and what we will now do in the Premier League.”
