Newcastle remain in the hunt for Besiktas and Turkey striker Cenk Tosun, with Crystal Palace also reportedly keen on the 26-year-old frontman.

The Chronicle reports the Magpies had tabled an offer for Tosun on deadline day, however were unable to a complete a move for the striker, and could go in for the Besiktas star again this winter.

Tosun scored 27 goals for the Turkish champs last term and has started this season well too, netting three goals in five games.

Newcastle have relatively few options in front of goal, with Dwight Gayle and Joselu the only out and out strikers at the club. The former has yet to find the net this season after his brilliant previous campaign, while the latter has done so only once.

Rafael Benitez may now turn to Tosun this winter in an attempt to solve his striking woes.

Reports suggest it will take an offer of around £17.5m to convince Besiktas to sell.
