Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to plead for club Captain Jamaal Lascelles to be given a call up to the England national team following his terrific start to the season.
Lascelles has scored the winners in each of the Magpies last two games against both Swansea and Stoke, and has been an outstanding figure in the heart of Rafael Benitez’s defence in what has been a solid start to the new campaign for the Spaniard’s side.
The Magpies currently sit fourth in the Premier League table following three consecutive top flight victories, and have surprised many with their form upon their return to England’s top division.
And while a number of players have caught the eye – including the club’s Player of the Month and Borussia Dortmund loanee Mikel Merino – it is Lascelles who has received the most plaudits from fans and pundits alike.
Could it be time for Gareth Southgate to give the 23-year-old his shot? These fans seem to think so …
