Newcastle all time top scorer Alan Shearer has been discussing Newcastle’s title chances with four time major gold champion Rory McIlroy.

Shearer, on duty for interviewing duties for the European Tour’s social media platforms, was speaking to the golf superstar ahead of this week’s British Masters at Close House.

A keen golf fan himself, Shearer took the opportunity to discuss the course, as well as McIlroy’s thus far 10 year long successful career, before insisting moving onto what he described as ‘the serious stuff’.

“Who’s going to win the Premier League?” Shearer asked the former world number one, before adding: “Man United, or Newcastle?”

McIlroy replied in jest: “I would say Manchester United have a bit of a better chance this year.

“I think Newcastle are in a bit of a rebuilding stage at the moment.”

Newcastle currently sit 9th in the table after having won three and lost three of their six Premier League fixtures so far, whilst United sit in second and remain undefeated with five wins and one draw.
