Newcastle United have been rocked by news this week that popular former chairman Freddy Shepherd has died at the age of 75, ten years after he sold his stake in the North East side to current owner Mike Ashley.

Shepherd was with the club for a period of 15 years between 1992 and 2007, including ten years as chairman, overseeing what many consider to be the glory years in the club’s history in the Premier League- and the benchmark for where fans still believe the club should be competing.

European nights at St. James’ Park were common under Shepherd’s ownership and he’ll be sorely missed by the home faithful, who’ll likely pay respects to their former chairman in this weekend’s crunch Premier League tie against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

We’ve looked back at four great moments from Freddy Shepherd’s time at Newcastle United to honour the former chairman and please be sure to share your memories in the comments below!
