It’s the transfer rumour that just refuses to go away.

According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle United are pondering a move for West Ham United star Andy Carroll this summer. Indeed, the towering marksman is said to have emerged as a potential target for the Magpies, who would reportedly consider a loan move for him.

He left St. James’ Park six years ago in a £35m switch to Liverpool, though injury problems have plagued him for most of his career in claret and blue. The Hammers are understood to have been open to selling him to China, though would likely let him move back to Tyneside should Newcastle make a firm offer.

After a frustrating summer for the Toon Army on the transfer front, Carroll would be a popular addition. However, his injury record and high wages would surely prove a stumbling block, and Rafa Benitez recently suggested he was ‘more or less done’ when it came to buying forward this summer.

Joselu has arrived to battle the likes of Ayoze Perez, Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic for a starting berth in that area, so a move for Carroll wouldn’t make all that much sense.
