Newcastle have been linked with an unlikely move for Ross Barkley.
According to a report in the Daily Star the odds on the Everton midfielder moving to Newcastle have been slashed from 50/1 down to 6/1.
It would seem to be one of the unlikeliest moves of the transfer window with Barkley linked to Arsenal and Spurs at the end of last season in a bid to improve his England prospects.
After stalling on a new contract to stay at Goodison the midfielder was put on the transfer list with Everton reportedly looking for £50m.
Barkley has turned down a contract worth £100,000/week which combined with the transfer fee would appear to put him well out of Newcastle’s budget.
Rafa Benitez has gone on record to state that his priority areas are to bring in a striker and a goalkeeper- unless there is a massive change in circumstances there seems no chance of Barkley heading to St James’ Park.
