According to the Sun, Newcastle United are ready to step up their attempts to land Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere this summer.

Indeed, the England international is seemingly an outcast with the Gunners as he enters the final year of his deal in north London and Arsene Wenger has a myriad of options available to him in central midfield berths.

Loaned out to Bournemouth last term, the 25-year-old did manage to overcome most of his injury concerns (making 22 Premier League starts on the south coast) without pulling up any trees, before fracturing his leg at the end of the campaign.

Still, creativity has been a major issue on Tyneside outside of Jonjo Shelvey and few would doubt Wilshere’s quality on that front. He’s thought to have been eager to stay at the Emirates, though is said to be coming to terms about an exit.

Rafa Benitez – who has publically admitted he’s unhappy with how the summer window has gone thus far – is reported to have told the club to pursue Wilshere as he looks to strengthen his engine room.

If, and, it’s a big if, Newcastle can get the best out of Wilshere, they could potentially have a player of immense quality on their books. However, with money seemingly somewhat tight right now, perhaps paying big wages for such an injury prone player is far too risky.
