Newcastle United rounded off a fairly productive pre-season schedule upon their return to St. James’ Park after 91 days away by beating Serie A side, Hellas Verona.

The Magpies followed up their impressive win over Wolfsburg by racing into a 2-0 victory before half-time after Ayoze Perez and Christian Atsu notched before the interval.

It’s not been the easiest summer for the Toon Army off the pitch as reports suggesting Rafa Benitez was unhappy with the transfer situation on Tyneside, though the results and performances in the build-up to the new campaign have been pretty promising.

Goalscorer Atsu, who joined on a permanent deal from Chelsea after last season’s loan success at the start of the window, was one of the players to have taken to social media to celebrate the win over Gialloblu.

Posting a photo on his Instagram account, the Ghanian was seemingly in good spirits as Newcastle prepare for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur in a week’s time.

Elsewhere, Siem De Jong – who has impressed during the build up to the new season – took to Twitter to celebrate as a return to the top tier of English football draws ever closer.

Hopefully, the club are able to bring in a few more players between now and the end of the window as Benitez looks to take his revolution in black and white into its next phase.
