A frustrating summer window for Newcastle United seemingly gets worse and worse, with journalist Martin Hardy revealing while speaking to Sky Sports that Rafa Benitez is again unhappy.

Indeed, rumours the Spaniard was set for showdown talks with Mike Ashley surfaced over the course of the weekend and, with just a week before Tottenham Hotspur visit St. James’ Park, Hardy has revealed there’s an unhappiness on Tyneside.

The author of Rafa’s Way – some wonderful insight on how the former Liverpool and Real Madrid rebuilt a club on its knees – was talking about his work in a column posted on their website.

”He was unhappy in January when the goalposts moved”, he says.

”He was unhappy at the start of the current transfer window, when the goalposts moved and he’s unhappy now. His hands have been tied in the transfer market.”

”He thought he had more to spend and more control over transfers. It has not happened. This is not what he thought was happening when he left his meeting with Ashley at Shirebrook a matter of days after leading Newcastle United to the Championship title.”

Despite Mike Ashley claiming the 57-year-old would be handed every penny of the money raised from promotion, player sales and more following promotion to the Premier League, the Magpies have failed to significantly strengthen over the course of the summer and have been installed at 5,000 to win the league by SportNation.bet.

Recently, they are said to have failed with an offer – one thought to have been seen as ‘derisory’ – for Stoke City forward Joselu as Benitez aims to get his squad ready for life back in the top tier.

While there’ve been reports around this particular story for what seems like months, the fact a journalist such as Hardy is so open about it is rather worrying indeed.

Here’s to hoping Newcastle can get some deals done as soon as possible and you can keep an eye on this at SportNation.com.
