DeAndre Yedlin another injury blow for Newcastle United

Defensive problems are already mounting up for Newcastle United upon their return to the Premier League.

Indeed, Rafa Benitez lost both Paul Dummett and Florian Lejeune to injuries within the first half of the loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur last week, having to bring on both Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles before the interval.

With both players expected to be out of action for a number of weeks, the Magpies manager’s job has been made no easier by the continued absence of DeAndre Yedlin.

The American international proved a key part of the squad that won the Championship last season, though picked up a hamstring injury over the course of pre-season. A useful asset on the right-hand side of a flat back four, his searing pace provides Benitez with an effective option to call upon.

However, despite reportedly recently returning to training, the 22-year-old will miss tomorrow’s game with Huddersfield Town, confirms Miles Starforth on Twitter.

While Yedlin’s absence will be a blow, summer signing Javier Manquillo did impress against Tottenham and will presumably deputise there in west Yorkshire.
