Newcastle have had an offer for Joselu rejected by Stoke City.

According to a report in the Stoke Sentinel the 27 year old is the latest striker that Rafa Benitez has turned his attention to.

Joselu spent last season on an unproductive loan deal with Deportivo La Coruna but has scored doubles in each of Stoke’s last two pre-season friendlies.

Benitez wants to bring in a striker and a goalkeeper before next weekend’s Premier League opener against Spurs but is facing a race against time after a summer of frustration.

Tammy Abraham was the first striker that the Newcastle boss wanted to recruit but after the Chelsea man elected to go to Swansea on loan he has found a number of doors closing.

A month ago Stoke would have been happy to move Joselu on but after selling Jon Walters and Marko Arnautovic Hughes is having second thoughts about moving on the former Hannover and Hoffenheim striker.
