Newcastle target Lucas Perez has been handed another snub with Arsenal transferring his number nine jersey to new signing Alexandre Lacazette.

According to a report in The Standard the striker has described that decision as the final straw on his Arsenal career even though Wenger has apologised.

While Wenger has said that he wants to hold on to the Spaniard the arrival of Lacazette added to Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Danny Wellback sees Perez at the back of the queue for a striking place.

Rafa Benitez would love to have that sort of competition for places with the clock ticking towards Newcastle’s opening Premier League clash against Spurs.

A bid of £13.4m should be enough to please Arsenal but Benitez would then have to convince the striker to move north rather than to Turkey or back to Spain.

With a World Cup at the end of the season Perez wants to be playing regular first team football to earn a place in the Spanish squad.
