Newcastle are still prepared to sell Aleksandar Mitrovic.

According to a report in The Chronicle the Serbian could be sold despite Newcastle’s lack of striking options.

Lyon were recently linked with a move for Mitrovic with Newcastle looking to recoup the £16m that they paid to Anderlecht two years ago.

With Daryl Murphy sold to Nottingham Forest for £2m Rafa Benitez has only got Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle to select from with the kick off to the Premier League campaign just over a week away.

Benitez was hopeful of bringing Tammy Abraham in on loan from Chelsea but lost out on that target to Swansea.

Arsenal’s Lucas Perez has been strongly linked over the last week but with interest from Spain and Germany Newcastle have their work cut out to bring in the 28 year old.

Moving on the players surplus to requirement has proved a difficult job so far with the sale of Mitrovic bringing in the funds to reinvest in a new striker.
